NATIONAL CAMPING AWARD

FOR LEADERS

This is a Cumulative Individual Award.  To earn it, a Scout or Leader must have met the camping requirements for a certain number of days and nights.

The Award is presented, and a Patch given when the individual has achieved any of the following:

100 days and night of camping
250 days and night of camping
500 days and night of camping
1000 days and night of camping

Note that these awards are retroactive to January 1, 1991, but only for Boy Scouts (you can start counting either as of the date you became a Boy Scout / Boy Scout Leader, or as of January 1, 1991, whichever is later.)

Camping for the Individual Award may be done with the Family, Friends, Patrol, or Unit, provided it meets the "Camping Requirements" (see below).

There is both an "annual" and a "cumulative" Award for Units.

To earn the Annual Unit Award, the Unit must have achieved any of the following during any consecutive 12-month period (it doesn't have to be a "calendar-year"):

10 days and night of camping
20 days and night of camping
30 days and night of camping
50 days and night of camping

To earn the Cumulative Unit Award, the Unit must have achieved any of the following during the Unit's entire history:

100 days and night of camping
250 days and night of camping
500 days and night of camping
1000 days and night of camping

CAMPING REQUIREMENTS for all NATIONAL CAMPING AWARDS:

The following Counts as "Camping"

Sleeping in tents.
Staying in rustic cabins (no electricity).
Under the open skies.
You participated in setting up and breaking camp.
You participated in camp chores.
You participated in camping activities. (Hiking, swimming, nature exploration, conservation projects, etc.)
A full day of camping counts as a "day".
Late arrival and early departure days count together as one "day".
Camping "days" must be verified by Parents, Troop Leaders, SPL, or other trustworthy persons.
For the Individual Award, camping doesn't need to be done with the Unit.

The following does NOT count as "Camping"

Luxury motor homes.
Campers with electricity.
Lodges, motels, cabins with electricity.
When you don't participate in setting up or breaking down camp.
When you don't participate in camping type activities.

There are different patches for each level of the Awards (I found pictures of the 100-day and the 250-day patches only, and I don't know if they're the Individual or the Unit patches).  These patches may be worn as a "Temporary Badge" on the Uniform (on the front pocket).

The Unit may also display a Ribbon on their Troop Flag (I couldn't find any pictures of that, so I don't know what color it actually is, the ribbon shown is just representative).
